  • My Approach

I am a Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist. I will assist you in practical terms by exploring the connection between your thoughts, emotions, behaviours and experiences with a view to improving your quality of life. My approach refrains from puerile oversimplifications of the reality of being human.

FAQs

Who do I work with?

I work with adults and young people.

What issues do I work with therapeutically?

It is important to note that you don’t need to be in crisis or have a diagnosed mental illness to have psychotherapy. I can help you with emotional or mental health problems, including anxiety, depression, problematic thinking, sleep issues, addiction, phobias, ocd, confidence, ‘stuckness’, self-esteem, issues to do with food, and more. I can help you to achieve a specific goal, overcome a challenge or to understand yourself better and fulfil your potential.

What categories of performers do I work with?

I am honoured to work with a variety of performers from the worlds of sport, culture and the arts.

How can I help performers?

I apply cognitive behavioural principles non-therapeutically for performance enhancement and for general mental health. I view you as a person and not just as a performer.

What is the meaning and purpose in life stuff all about?

It can actually be transformative. It is bigger picture thinking which clarifies and strengthens foundations. Once these are sorted the world is your oyster.

What can I expect to experience in sessions?

In general you can expect to feel heard, seen and understood in an environment that is confidential, supportive and non-judgemental.

Will I give you advice?

I will listen and ask questions and work collaborately with you to address your needs but I won’t tell you what to do.

How long are sessions?

Typically 55 minutes. Sometimes shorter by agreement.

Do I lie on a couch during sessions?

No. We sit across from each other.

Can I work online or over the phone?

Zoom consultations are available and have been found to be both convenient and effective for clients. I do not provide consultations over the phone.

What hours am I available?

Monday to Friday: 9am - 9pm

Saturday: 9am - 1pm

How many sessions are needed?

It is impossible to say with certainty but for what it is worth the cognitive behavioural approach is generally considered to be a short-term approach - ranging from roughly 5 to 20 sessions. We can discuss the number of sessions that might be right for you.

How often are sessions?

Sessions take place at a frequency that suits you. Typically they are weekly or bi-weekly but ultimately the decision is yours. Follow on sessions are available periodically after our work has finished to discuss progress and to ensure that you continue to feel supported.

Do I need to sign up to a specific number of sessions?

No. We work collaboratively on a session by session basis and you are free to drop out at any time.

Can I phone before making an appointment to discuss my needs?

Of course. I would be delighted to chat with you with no obligation on your part to work with me.

At your service to meet your needs.
