Breaking the word down, we see that ‘psycho’ refers to psychology – the science of mind and behaviour – and ‘social’ refers to society – groups of people living together with shared laws and organizations.

If we put these two ideas together, we can see that psycho-social focuses on the person’s thoughts, emotions and behaviours and how the person relates to others and to society. The objective of CBT is to help guide the person back into a healthy state of being.
